The race was first run in 1994 as the Columbia Spring Classic. In 1999 our teammate and friend Carl Dolan died after racing his bike, and we renamed the event in his honor. It is the longest continuously running race in MABRA history.
Getting there
From I-95 between Baltimore and Washington, take MD Route 175 West (exit 41 toward Columbia). From MD 175, take the exit for Columbia Gateway Drive and follow it to parking and registration on Albert Einstein Drive. Open in Google Maps.
Parking
Park only in the lot we have permission to use, behind the registration tent. Keeping to that lot is how we keep the venue.
Racing
Licenses
A USA Cycling license is required. Give your license number when you register online and be ready to show it at check-in. Unlicensed riders may race only in categories open to novice (category 5) men or women, and buy a one-day license with their entry.
Check-in and registration
Check-in opens at 6:30 am in the registration tent on Albert Einstein Drive and closes for each race 30 minutes before its start. Open spots then go to waitlisted riders in the order they entered. All start times are estimates; racing ends by 5:00 pm and races may be shortened to keep to that.
Combined fields
Combined-category races start as one field but are scored separately, with separate prize lists. Junior fields start separately by age group. Juniors are subject to gear restrictions and post-race rollout, including juniors racing in senior fields; the chief referee announces rollout time and place at the start line.
